My Journey into Pilates: How It Changed My Life
For those of you who don’t know my story, I’d like to take a moment to share it with you. It’s a journey filled with challenges, hope, and ultimately, transformation.
When I was 16, I suffered a skiing accident that would change everything. I tore my ACL right off the bone, which led to my first of three reconstructive surgeries. The surgeon replaced my damaged ligament with a Gore-Tex one, and after what felt like an eternity, I healed. I was determined to bounce back and focused on my rehabilitation. I eventually got back to skiing and even played competitive tennis in college, relishing the thrill of being active again.
However, life had other plans.
Eight years later, during a heated tennis match, I tore my ACL once more. This time, the doctor revealed something alarming: my body had actually absorbed the Gore-Tex! For my second surgery, they used my patellar tendon. Just when I thought I was on the right track, fate struck again; two years later, I found myself undergoing a third surgery, this time using a cadaver tendon.
So here I was, three knee reconstructions later and spanning over a decade, left with the stark reality of being bone-on-bone at just 26 years old. It was an incredibly hard time for me. My morale plummeted. I had always been athletic, a lover of movement, and now I faced the daunting challenge of being unable to do simple things that most people my age took for granted. Running, lunging, or any impact activity was out of the question.
Enter Pilates
And then, a ray of hope emerged: Pilates.
I was introduced to this incredible practice 23 years ago. And I haven’t looked back since. Pilates has not just changed my life…it has reinvented it. 🙏🏻
This method gave me hope and carved out a path that allowed me to heal and grow, not just physically but emotionally and mentally as well. It was gentle on my body and joints (though let me clarify…gentle does not mean easy! 😂💪🏻). Despite my limitations, I discovered that I was stronger than ever…stronger than I was even in my 20s!
Through Pilates, I learned to overcome obstacles, find solutions for pain, and create space in my joints. It offered me a way to stay fit, healthy, and feel good…inside and out.
This journey ignited a mission within me: to share the transformative Power of Pilates with others.
My Background in Psychobiology
My background in psychobiology has also helped shape how I teach. Studying how the brain and body connect gave me a deeper understanding of movement, anatomy, and biomechanics.
It’s helped me approach Pilates with more curiosity and care…supporting clients in building strength, coordination, and awareness in a way that feels thoughtful, accessible, and empowering.
A Calling, Not Just a Career
There is nothing more fulfilling than watching my clients grow stronger, more coordinated, and pain-free. Seeing their confidence blossom and their connection to their bodies deepen fills my heart with gratitude.
They inspire me every day, reminding me of why I do this work. 🧘♀️
I share this story not just for myself, but for all those who may feel lost or limited in their own journeys. Teaching and training in Pilates is my calling. I’ve met countless incredible individuals along the way—each one contributing to my growth and passion for this practice. You all know who you are. 😊🩷🙏🏻
Continuing the Journey
I will forever be grateful for Pilates and the way it’s transformed my life. As I continue to learn and evolve in my practice, I am devoted to sharing these gifts with others.
